Wyck Rissington: A Village With A Beautiful Riverbank (2023)

Wyck Rissington

Wyck Rissington is a charming Cotswold (an area designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1966) village situated 1.5 miles north-east of Bourton-on-the Water.

The village’s name translates from the Saxon as “a building of special significance on a hill covered with brushwood” and has a charming central green bordered by several traditional houses.

Keep an eye out for a Victorian drinking fountain, the duck pond and the Church of St Lawrence that is over 750 years old and, get this, the famous composer Gustav Holtz (he of The Planets fame) was once an organist and choirmaster here.

Near Wyck Rissington, you can explore an array of historic attractions, ancient sites, towns and woodlands like Belas Knap Long Barrow, Notgrove Long Barrow, Cheltenham and Coleford. There are several geological features, like Puzzlewood and Clearwell caves, to be discovered.

From Heathrow Airport to Wyck Rissington should take about 1.5 hours by car.
