Willersey: A Village Bursting With Character And Charm (2023)

Willersey’s beauty, Cotswold charm in every view, nature’s peace surrounds

Willersey

Willersey is a picturesque village in the Cotswolds (an area designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1966) village along the Broadway to Stratford-upon-Avon.

A visit here will reveal an array of traditional stone cottages with many charming features and some with charming gable walls featuring ovals chiselled out in the stones.

On Kingcombe Lane lies Kiftsgate Stone; a Saxon stone with a hole through it and which marked the location of a moot where Saxon Kings was declared.

Around 125 AD, the Romans either by accident or on purpose or carelessly left a hoard of coins in Willersey.

Willersey has a rather fabulous looking hotel named Dormy House, two pubs and is a little way from Broadway.

The area is perfect for history buffs, with a range of museums, galleries, and heritage sites that offer a chance to explore the region’s rich cultural heritage.

Heathrow Airport to Willersey takes around two hours by car.

The Cotswolds is full of surprises, with unexpected vistas and hidden gems around every corner and because of this, is a popular location for filming various movies and TV shows.

Here are some notable examples:

Highclere Castle – This stunning country house in Hampshire was used as the main filming location for the hit TV series Downton Abbey. However, several scenes from the show were also filmed in the Cotswolds, including in the village of Bampton, which was used as the fictional village of Downton.

Lacock Abbey – This historic abbey in Wiltshire has been used as a filming location for several movies and TV shows, including Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, where it was used as the interior of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Gloucester Cathedral – This has been used as a filming location for several movies and TV shows, including Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, where it was used as the exterior of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
