This charming market town is in the heart of the Cotswolds (a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1966) and surrounded by picturesque countryside.

Known for its honey-colored stone buildings and quaint streets, Tetbury is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a quintessentially English experience.

The town’s history dates back to the Middle Ages, and it is home to several historic landmarks, including the Market House, the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, and the 16th-century Chavenage House.

Chavenage House’ historic architecture and surroundings makes it a popular filming location, and it has been featured in several TV shows and movies, including Poldark, The Onedin Line, The Remains of the Day, The Three Musketeers and more.

For those interested in the outdoors, Tetbury is surrounded by rolling hills and lush countryside, making it an ideal destination for hiking, cycling, and horse riding.

Westonbirt Arboretum is also a must-visit attraction, with its stunning collection of trees and plants from around the world.

Nearby is Highgrove Estate, the private residence of King Charles III, and open to tours during the year (check dates and times ahead of visiting) and Painswick Rococo Garden, an 18th century garden.

The town is also home to a weekly farmers’ market, where visitors can sample and purchase fresh produce from the surrounding area.

There are many places to stay in including The Close Hotel (a luxury hotel with a fine dining restaurant), The Snooty Fox (a pub with rooms), The Priory Inn (hotel) and The Hare and Hounds Hotel, a historic country house hotel just outside of Tetbury.

There are two public toilets in Tetbury (The Chipping one doesn’t have disabled facilities whereas the one located in West Street does) and both are open from 8am to 6pm and are free.

If driving, Heathrow Airport to Tetbury takes 1 hour and 45 minutes by car.
